2012 has been the year which has seen the release of a wide variety of films that have enthralled and charmed audiences at the same time. There were also sequels and the release of some of the most awaited movies that audiences had been waiting for a long period of time. So what exactly are the factors that define the success of a Bollywood movie? The Box Office numbers definitely play a part and so does the critical acclaim which makes these movies remembered by the Indian audience for many years to come. The year that has passed has seen the release of the some of the best movies in action, romance, comedy and drama. Whether they were content driven films or the typical potboilers that Bollywood is known for, the Industry released a superb mix of movies all throughout the past year. Now let’s take a look at which of these movies made it into our Top Ten list of the best Bollywood movies – 2012 to 2013.
10. OMG: Oh My God:
We start off our our Top Ten List with OMG: Oh My God which amassed more than 70 crore rupees in the Box Office in 2012. The movie has Paresh Rawal in the lead role who brings the best of his multi-dimensional acting talents to the big screen combining emotions of sadness, anger, greed and comedy into one flawlessly played character. The movie will be truly remembered as one of the greats for his superb acting as he even managed to overshadow Bollywood legend Akshay Kumar who was cast to play the role of God. Umesh Shukla’s all-round superb direction questions the existence of God in this humorous film which leaves the audience with a deep and meaningful message.
Rarely have we seen the great Amir Khan failing at any of his ventures and Talaash proves the fact that Amir Khan has been gifted with the Midas touch where anything he touches turns to gold. Reema Kagti’s Talaash is an action-suspense thriller movie which follows the story of Indian Police officer Amir Khan as he tries to put the pieces of a puzzle together and at the same time keeps the audience guessing at every twist and turn. Talaash was also blessed with the performances of other Bollywood big names like Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukehrji propelling the movie to scoring a business of close to Rs. 90 Crore in the Box Office.
8. Son of Sardaar:
Son of Sardaar is one of the greatest Indian comedy movies to be released in 2012 and stars Bollywood legends Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Dutt with Sonakshi Sinha bringing up the rear. If you are a fan of Indian movies, you will remember Ajay Devgan’s stunt on two bikes in the film Phool Aur Kaante. Well, this time around, he felt the need to go one better than his previous stunt by riding two horses at the same time. Ajay Devgan – clad in a turban manages to keep the audience laughing at every single stage of the film. Its not wonder that the film made it into the Rs. 100 Crore club.
7. Bol Bachchan:
When Rohit Shetty recreated the 1979 version of Gol Maal, few wondered if there was ever going to be a comedy movie which would be its equal or even surpass it. But this lethal combination of Ajay Devgan and Abishek Bachan turned out to be one of the best comedy films of all time easily breaking the Rs. 100 Crore mark in the Box office rankings. The movie is full of Bachan’s double dhamaal actions and Ajay Devgan’s English one liners which will keep the audience rolling over with laughter all the time.
6. Jab Tak Hai Jaan:
Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan was his final master piece before he bid farewell to the world and alas he wasn’t even around by the time the movie released. The king of Romance Shah Rukh Khan was cast as his lead role in the film and also stars Bollywood starlets Katrina Kaif and Anuksha Sharma.
5. Housefull 2:
This is the sequel to the 2010 hit film Housefull and has 12 well-known actors in Bollywood playing different roles. The slightly overcrowded cast still managed to amass an impressive Rs. 110 crore in the Box Office.
4. Rowdy Rathore:
This was a perfect masala affair combining the best of Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha coupled with a dance item song from South Indian Actor Legend Prabhudeva. The movie was able to make an astounding Rs. 140 crore at the Box Office.
Agneepath was yet another remake and is most probably remembered for its hit dance item song starring Katrina Kaif in Chikni Chameli. The movie was a great start for the directing skills of Karan Malhotra as it managed to make over Rs. 120 crore in the box office and had stars like Hrithikh Roshan and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles.
2. Ek Tha Tiger:
People thronged to the cinemas when they heard that this movie was starring ex-real life couple Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. The movie is full of some great direction, cinematography and acting and did a business of approximately Rs. 190 crore in the Box Office.
Barfi makes it into our number one spot for the Best Bollywood film of 2012 simply because of the outstanding acting from Priyanka Chopra who shed her pretty girl image and donned the role of an autistic girl creating an emotional connection with the audience. This was also the official entry from India into the Oscars for the year 2012 and the film overall amassed an impressive Rs. 110 crore at the Box Office.
